Embedded and IoT Engineer – Intern
Lotus Power is seeking skilled and passionate Embedded and IoT Engineer (Intern) to join our team developing innovative beekeeping devices, farm management devices, and smart agricultural solutions. The candidate will work with a cross-functional team in Egypt and North America, designing, developing, and deploying embedded systems and IoT-based technologies to remotely enhance data collection, monitoring, and decision-making on farm management devices. Lotus Power has offices in Cairo, Egypt, and Vancouver, BC, Canada. This role is based in the Cairo office. The Embedded and IoT Engineer (intern) can work from home and must come to the office when needed.
Lotus Power is a startup business, founded in 2024, that focuses on the design and development of beekeeping devices, farm management devices, and electrified systems. Lotus Power is seeking outstanding engineers and researchers who think outside the box and are keen on deploying research sciences to products through the product development process and R&D methodologies. The candidate will participate in the novel design of farm management devices and patent applications based on his/her contribution. This role can be transferred to a full-time position, this is based on the performance of the candidate.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and implement firmware (FW) for microcontrollers (e.g., STM32, ESP32, etc.).
Integrate various sensors (temperature, humidity, etc.) and actuators (heaters, fans, etc.) into the FW system.
Develop IoT system based on Wi-Fi technique through implementing MQTT/HTTP/CoAP/other protocols for data transmission.
Integrate the FW & IoT with cloud platforms (Firebase, AWS IoT, Azure IoT, or open-source alternatives).
Develop frameworks (based on Android system) that allow seamless integration between mobile devices, IoT hardware, and cloud services, using Flutter (Dart), React Native (JavaScript), or other tools.
Work closely with embedded, electrical, and system engineers to ensure structural system designs of farm management devices.
Participate in documentation of design, testing, and deployment processes.
Qualifications:
BSc, MSc, or PhD student in Mechatronics, Electronics, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
Proficiency in programming language (C/C++ and/or Python).
Experience with microcontrollers (e.g., Arduino, ESP32, STM32) and basic electronic circuits.
Familiar with breadboards, sensors, and development boards.
Familiar with IoT architectures and protocols.
Good problem-solving skills and willingness to learn new tools and technologies.
Team player with clear communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of farm management devices.
Familiarity with patent application and publication process.
Hands-on experience with testing or validation procedures.
Familiar with secure OTA (Over-The-Air) firmware updates and remote diagnostics.
