Material Mechanical Engineer – Intern

Lotus Power is seeking a Materials / Mechanical Engineer – Intern to join our product development team focused on innovative farm management devices. This internship offers hands-on experience in materials selection, testing, and manufacturing processes that ensure our farm management products are durable, efficient, and sustainable for agricultural environments. The intern will work closely with the engineering and manufacturing teams to support ongoing projects and gain practical exposure to real-world product development. This position bridges materials science and mechanical design, ensuring that every product meets high standards for durability, performance, and cost-effectiveness in demanding farm environments.

Lotus Power is a startup business, founded in 2024, it focuses on design and development of farm management and electrified systems. Lotus Power has offices in Cairo, Egypt and Vancouver, BC, Canada, this role is based in Cairo office. The candidate will be working with a cross-functional team in Egypt and Canada, where he/she will perform structural, CFD, and thermal FEA studies for the farm management devices. The candidate can work remotely and he/she needs to go the office when it is needed. 

Key Responsibilities:

Assist in evaluating and testing materials (metals, plastics, composites, coatings, etc.) used in manufacturing farm management devices.

Support the development of material specifications and documentation for production.

Participate in material performance testing, such as mechanical, thermal, and environmental durability assessments.

Help analyze material failures and contribute to improvement recommendations.

Research new materials and processes that can improve product performance or sustainability.

Support manufacturing trials and quality inspections to verify material compatibility and consistency.

Work collaboratively with design and production teams to align material choices with mechanical design and cost goals.

Qualifications:

BSc, MSc, or PhD student in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field.

Basic knowledge of materials properties, testing methods, and manufacturing processes (injection molding, casting, machining, etc.).

Familiarity with CAD tools (e.g., SolidWorks, Ansys, Fusion 360) and basic materials analysis techniques.

knowledge in FEA software (e.g., SolidWorks, ANSYS, COMSOL, others).

Understanding of thermodynamics principles and experience working with CFD data or aerodynamic analysis tools.

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with sustainable or recyclable materials.

Understanding of sensor housings, enclosures, and sealing systems for harsh environments.

Exposure to agriculture, IoT, or smart farm technologies.
